Dear ladies, do you want a career? Learn poker!

April 26, 2021 By editor

Business woman with a laptop

“We thought we were learning poker, but we actually learned how to navigate the business world,” as explained by one of the women who attended special training on poker as a self-development tool. Now this revolutionary type of education is available at a well-renowned business education facility, Northwestern University Kellog School of Management. Kellog is launching a six-week extracurricular pilot program  based on poker and poker strategies, to teach women the skills they need to succeed in a tough, male-dominated business environment. Ladies from Delaware should pay special attention to this opportunity because they are geographically close, and their state has recently passed new legislation on gaming.

Poker is fun, but it has always been considered male territory. Kellog found a partner devoted to flipping the tables in this respect, a woman-led company significantly named Poker PowHer. They are convinced that poker is much more than entertainment. Erin Lydon, managing director and general manager of Poker Powher, has very strong views in this respect:  “Why are we bringing poker to the women of Kellogg? Because this game is a game-changer. At Poker PowHer, we firmly believe there is a link between why so few women play this game of skill and risk and why so few women advance to the top in business and industry. Through this partnership, we are thrilled to shape tomorrow’s brightest minds in business — and change the future for generations of women.”

Kellog School of Management was founded in 1908 with a mission to educate, equip and inspire leaders who build strong organizations and wisely leverage the power of markets to create lasting value. They have a Center for Executive Women focusing specifically on empowering women to help them break the glass ceiling in the corporate world. The innovative idea to use poker to train their ladies is exciting, as explained by Victoria Medvec, professor of management and organizations and co-founder and executive director of the Center for Executive Women: “We are thrilled to launch this pilot, which will help women explore and build crucial leadership abilities in a creative and engaging way. Not only will participants gain an edge in their careers by diving deep into negotiation strategies, but they will also have the opportunity to build relationships with Kellogg women across our full-time, part-time, and executive MBA degree programs.”

The program is “designed to empower women by diving deep into negotiation strategy, decision-making, and emotional intelligence,” as stated in the school announcement on the new initiative. Victoria Medvec is one of the leading teachers as a negotiation and decision expert. She will be supported by professional poker player Melanie Weisner and a series of distinguished guest lectures like psychologist and New York Times best-selling author Maria Konnikova.

The program is structured around weekly lectures by Kellogg professors, supported by small group discussions and poker lessons that demonstrate leadership insights learned through practical application in the game. At the end of each session, students can practice the skills they acquired through gameplay.

Kakegurui, the craziest and most entertaining way to learn how to play and win

April 26, 2021 By editor

Fancy academy type school

She is lovely; more than that, she is sexy. She is smart. She is nice. She is always cheerful. And she might just be the devil personified. Meet Yumeko Jabami, the Japanese teenager protagonist of the hit tv series Kakegurui. Follow her in her dramatic taking over of the elite Hyakkaou Private Academy, a very peculiar high school for the children of the wealthy and powerful. Think of a sort of Hogwarths for the lovers of high-risk gaming to get an idea of what Hyakkaou is all about. The right place for those who adore the thrill of challenging their luck. Another way to feel those strong emotions is grab a PA Online Lottery bonus code and make the most of the opportunity. But if you also want to learn some new tricks… what better place than a school?

At Hyakkaou Private Academy, what makes or breaks a student’s success is his/her ability in playing (and winning!) all sorts of games of luck. Despite being adolescents, all these kids play for money, and they have lots of it being children of a social elite. When Yumeko shows up, she starts raising the stakes to a level not even those filthy rich and spoiled brats were used to. She plays naive, with lots of sweet smiling and silly giggling, but she is actually putting herself on stage as a yummy bait for her new schoolmates. Never aggressive, always soft-spoken, and well-mannered, Yumeko is actually scanning the students of the Academy and taking note of every little detail of their behavior.

The lovely brunette is a second-year “transfer student.” As soon as she sets foot in her new school, a senior player and classmate, Mary Saotome, challenges Yumeko to a game of “rock-paper-scissors.” A modified version, obviously. Not only that: the game is rigged. Saotome controls dozen of fellow students who have fallen into debt from too many lost games and reduced to the status of “pets.” Here we discover the disquieting social system of the school, where the winners are VIPs and live in luxury, while the losers are dubbed “doggies” (the boys) and “kitties” (the girls). They are virtually slaves to their powerful fellow students.

Yumeko’s adventures are very educational for aspiring high-risk gamers. The episodes describe the functioning of all the games played by the contestants with abundance of details. Then the heroine teaches her public much more: in which way her opponents are cheating. She does not mind losing some rounds here and there to investigate the mechanism and mislead the cheaters. One single detail in Yumeko means that she is different from everyone else: she is addicted to risk. Hence, her real motivation is the emotional high she gets from pushing every situation to the extreme.

The series is nothing less than addictive. As the spinoff of an anime, it perfectly recreates the surreal atmosphere of a cartoon. Two seasons of the tv series are available on Netflix. Two movies have already been released with the same cast, and a third one is scheduled to hit the silver screen in May 2021. Kakegurui lore is to be also found in two novels inspired by the same story. No lack of educational materials then, for anyone willing to learn the secrets of highly adrenalinic gaming, bluffing included.

All That You Need to Know Progressive Pokies

April 16, 2021 By editor

Slots (sometimes referred to as pokies in certain parts of the world) are some of the most fun and exciting online casino games in existence. Some players enjoy these packages due to their rather straightforward nature. Others love the fast-paced variety of the rounds themselves while others are more attracted to slots thanks to bonus rounds and other rewards. Still, the main intention is always to walk away a winner.

One variant which has gained a fair amount of popularity in recent times involves what is known as a progressive jackpot. The fundamentals behind progressive jackpots are rather simple. The total amount that is contained within the jackpot (known as the “pot” ) will increase over time based upon the number of players and the last time the pot was awarded. So, it is clear to see that such rewards can quickly add up.

Progressive jackpots are also unique in the fact that the associated buy-in rates tend to be rather low. This is good news for anyone who happens to be grappling with a somewhat limited bankroll. Many online slots providers will offer progressive jackpots as one of their options and it is not entirely uncommon for these awards to reach well into the tens or even hundreds of thousands of pounds.

We can now see why progressive jackpots are incredibly popular options. However, there are some other factors to consider if you hope to make the best choice while increasing your chances of winning.

A Bit More Than Meets the Eye

Every game of online pokies can be judged based off of several variables. These include:

  • The number of reels
  • The presence of multipliers and wild symbols
  • Hidden or bonus rounds
  • The minimum and maximum amount that can be wagered

However, many professionals will argue that the most important metric involves what is known as the return-to-player (RTP) percentage. The RTP is a way to define the total amount of money (in the form of a percentage) that is returned to players who place wagers. So, it should be clear that higher RTPs are more attractive. The majority of top slots games will normally offer an RTP of above 95 per cent.

However, progressive slots are often known for slightly lower RTP percentages. If we think about it for a moment, this actually makes perfect sense due to the size of the jackpots themselves. In other words, higher jackpots are always associated with lower chances of winning. This is quite appealing for some players who consider themselves to be “high rollers” within the online casino community.

Are progressive slots the right choice for you? The only way to answer this question is to experience the thrills for yourself. Countless platforms host progressive slots and there is no doubt that you will be able to encounter the most appropriate game. As always, be sure to keep an eye on your bankroll and never forget to have fun with the games themselves!

Five Most Common Rookie Casino Mistakes

April 13, 2021 By editor

The bright lights, loud noises, people cheering, nice clothing, booze flowing, and excitement that all goes down in a casino can be a lot for one person to take in when they first hit the floor of an adult playland that has the opportunity to win them some serious coin. Gambling inside a casino for the very first time can be one of the most exciting experiences of someone’s life, but it’s often that it can be a little overwhelming. There are strict rules, intimidating pit bosses, security guards and lots of things happening all at once.

For a rookie, all of these sensations can be a bit much when they first hit the casino floor but it all pays off when you’re at the table and having a great time. In this article, we will help break down some of the most common rookie casino mistakes so that when you enter the golden doors for the very first time, you will be calm, cool and collected. Right off the bat, one of the best ways to narrow down what games to play and how you should be attacking your strategy is by playing online casino games.

After you read this article, you’ll be more informed and much more confident when you hit the casino for the very first time. After all, it is one of the greatest places on Earth. After all, one of the smartest men to ever grace this Earth, Stephen Hawking, thought very highly of casinos, making a metaphor about them that makes quite a bit of sense.

“All the evidence shows that God was actually quite a gambler, and the universe is a great casino, where dice are thrown, and roulette wheels spin on every occasion.”

Let’s get into the most common mistakes.

1- Spending too much time at the slots

When you walk into a casino, you can’t miss the slots. They are everywhere and there are quite a few of them. The Las Vegas airport is known for having slot machines right when you walk off the plane. Slot machines can be a ton of fun and there are tons of ways to win big money but slot machines are an easy way to have your money literally eaten. The odds of you winning at the slots are very slim yet many people enjoy spending hours and hours with a bucket of coins waiting to win just once.

It is smart for a rookie casino player to have either a time limit or a money limit when you begin playing the slots. Either tell yourself that you will be spending just 30 minutes at the slots, or tell yourself “If I lose more than $50 on the slot machine, I am walking away and taking a stroll.” It sounds crazy, but slots are addictive, fun and commonly themed from movies and games so that you are drawn in and will want to continue playing.

2- Too Much Drinking

If you have never been to a casino, you may not know this but casinos hand out free drinks to those who are sitting at tables and betting their money. Your first thought might be, “how nice of the casinos!” But really it should be, “I can’t believe they are getting me drunk enough to get sloppy and take my money.” Casinos that are serving alcohol have just one goal in mind and that is to make as much money as they can.

Researchers have looked into the drinks that are served in the casino and they say if you are trying to win, a clear mind is key.

“Inhibition is a core component of the executive functions, and by a simple account, loss-chasing could arise from impaired inhibition, giving rise to impulsivity as the tendency to make rapid, hasty gambling decisions in pursuit of winning.”

3- Trying to Cheat

It seems like we shouldn’t have to type this one up, but DO NOT TRY TO CHEAT. It isn’t going to end well for you if you are trying to peak at the person’s cards next to you or act like you are a math wizard and counting cards. Casinos do not mess around and if there is a thought that you might be cheating, you are on their turf and it could be very bad for you. One couple was charged for trying to get fancy at a casino.

“A husband and wife have been charged with allegedly conspiring to steal approximately $4 million from Parkwest Casino 580 in Livermore in a baccarat scheme, state prosecutors announced on Monday.”

4- Not having a limit

If you have never been to a casino, you can have expectations that don’t exactly meet what they should be at. It is easy to win a couple of hands, get hot and go on a roll. That’s one of my favorite things at an online casino platform but it isn’t realistic that it will happen all the time. Casino players who don’t have a limit will lose way more money than someone who goes in with a neat budget and knows when to walk away.

If it is your first time gambling, have a set number in your head for when you will stand up from the table and walk away. You don’t want to try to win your money back by upping your bet and not having a plan. Most players lose money when they get desperate and don’t know when to call it off. Make sure you have a plan and set a limit.

5- Not Knowing the Games

This one should be fairly simple, but don’t sit down at a table of a game you don’t know and try to learn it right there. Before you ever step foot in the casino, you should have a decent idea of how to play the selected games you want to participate in. While it’s okay not to be an expert about what you’re about to do, it is plain bad etiquette and dangerous to not know the rules at all and try to learn on the fly.

If you are the guy at the blackjack table who has asked the dealer when to hit the last five hands, it is probably time for you to go.

Blackjack Basics for Beginners

March 23, 2021 By editor

Blackjack dealer dealing

Of the various casino games out there, blackjack is one of the most popular for players of all kinds. Probably the principal reason for this is its sheer simplicity, as its most basic level at least.

With the sole objective of taking on the dealer in order to score closer to 21 than them or, ideally, 21 exactly, it couldn’t be more straightforward. There are even pre-determined charts to memorise that will tell you the best move to make in any given situation – and more about this later.

Plus, there’s even the chance to tip your odds in your favour through the practice of card-counting, something that casinos frown upon but is not illegal in any way. It just involves keeping a mental tally of the cards dealt already to provide a guesstimate of which ones are still in the deck.

And, as with all games, the more you play, the better you get and this article should set you on your way.

The history of the game

It’s a game with a very long history. Back in 1601 the writer of Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes, produced a short story that included two men playing a game called ventiuna. A couple of centuries later, it became very popular in the rest of Europe under various different names.

In France it was known as “vingt-et-un” and in Britain as pontoon.

It wasn’t until the early 19th century that the game reached America, where it was given yet another name – the one that is in use today.

There are a couple of theories about how the name was devised. The first is that a number of gaming houses of the time set a new rule that any winning hand consisting of the ace of spades and either the jack of spades or of clubs would pay out at 10:1 instead of the more normal 3:2.

The other theory stems that the game was very popular among prospectors in the Klondike where the presence of the mineral zincblende, also known as blackjack, indicated that gold was nearby.

Today, blackjack remains as popular as ever thanks, in no small part, to its online resurgence. Avid players can now play exciting genres of the classic Blackjack games on popular sites like 888 casino, where you can find American Blackjack, Low stakes, 4 decks super stakes, multi hand as well as live online blackjack with real authentic dealers and a Pit boss.

The essential rules

Empty blackjack table with dealer

Blackjack has a list of rules that must be followed to see you through the game

The game itself is played in a number of ways, but in all the objectives remain the same.

In most variations it begins with the player, or players, being dealt two cards either face up or face down, depending on the casino rules. The dealer then receives two cards, generally one face up and one concealed from the players.

The players then place their bets and the game commences. In turn they say whether they want to hit (receive another card) or stand (complete their hand). When a player eventually stands, it’s the dealer’s turn to play. They reveal their hidden card and try to get nearer to 21 than the player(s). If they do, the player(s) lose their bets but if any player beats them, they win the value of their initial stake or, in the case of a blackjack, one and a half times its value. Aces are worth either one or eleven and picture cards are worth ten.

If players and dealer tie it’s called a push and stake money is returned.

There are also other rules governing the way the dealer plays. For example, in some casinos if their initial two cards add up to 17 they have to stand, in others they are allowed to draw more cards.

Mastering the basic strategy

One of the very first things any player serious about blackjack must do is to seek out a guide to something called the basic strategy. This is a method that was originally developed by four US Army engineers, Roger Baldwin, Wilbert Cantey, Herbert Maisel and James McDermott, in the 1950s who used one on the earliest computers to calculate the statistically most-advantageous way to play in any given situation.

Their achievement wasn’t fully acknowledged until 2008 when the men we inducted into the Blackjack Hall of Fame. But anyone who today devotes the time needed to memorise the basic strategy owe them a great debt of thanks.

Other features of the game

There are a number of other aspects of the game that can make playing even more rewarding. The first of these is called doubling down. If a player feels especially confident, they can choose to double their bet on the provision that they must stand after receiving just one more card.

Man playing lbackjack

Splitting a hand

The next is splitting a hand. This happens when a player has two cards of the same value. In this situation, they are allowed to use each card as a basis for a different hand to be played simultaneously. To do this they also have to put in the equivalent of their original stake.

There is also a safety feature called insurance that can kick in when the dealer’s revealed card is an ace. By placing an insurance bet of half the original stake, this pays out at 2:1 if the dealer has a blackjack, essentially protecting the player against a certain loss.

Summary

As such a popular game in both land-based venues and online casinos, most new players will likely come across blackjack at some point. It’s certainly a fun hand to get involved with, so it helps to be prepared for when you do. By using the aforementioned techniques, you’ll be a blackjack expert in no time.
